2023 National Coaches Conference underway in Canberra

After a three-year hiatus, the National Coaches Conference returns with this year’s theme of “athlete focused coaching

Coaches from around the country have today converged in Canberra at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence to hear from some of the industry's best in a two-day conference.

After a three-year hiatus, the National Coaches Conference returns with this year’s theme of “athlete focused coaching,” providing coaches with a range of skills and concepts to ensure players are at the centre of all things coaching both on and off the court.

A range of presenters will share their expertise over the two days, including Australian Boomers Coach, Brian Goorjian, respected sports leadership expert, Elizabeth Masen, and Indigenous leader, Timmy Duggan.

The conference will feature on-court presentations from top coaches, as well as three keynote addresses and specialised breakout sessions to cater to over 170 Australian coaches in attendance.

After the first day, coaches were already reaping the benefits of the conference.

"The whole event has been great. I've taken so much in that could help my club back at home," said Jarrod from New South Wales.

Jay from South Australia echoed Jarrod's sentiments.

"My favourite takeaway is going to be the coaches' notebook that was given out. You can't put a price on the content I now have in there," Jay said.

The conference runs from May 1-2. If you'd like to get involved in coaching, at any level, find out more here.
