Opals star Cambage set to return to the WNBA

Jayco Australian Opals star Liz Cambage is heading back to the Tulsa Shock and the WNBA just in time for the start of the 2013 season.

After declaring she was not intending to return to the WNBA following a taxing debut season in China, Cambage had a change of heart – deciding to re-join the Shock and look to add to her 33 WNBA games.

Battling back to fitness after suffering a broken hand late in the Chinese season, Cambage will return to Tulsa early next week ahead of the WNBA season tip-off for the Shock, who face Atlanta.

The star centre is one of five Australians plying their trade in the WNBA, led by Erin Phillips fresh from winning the 2012 WNBA Championship with her Indiana Fever.

Jenna O’Hea returns to the Los Angeles Sparks after impressing in her short post-
Olympics stint with team last season, while Rachel Jarry makes her WNBA debut after joining up with the Minnesota Lynx two seasons after being drafted in 2011.

Rounding out the quartet will be the good news story – the return to the court of Opals star Penny Taylor from a long-term knee injury.

Taylor, a three-time WNBA All-star and MVP of Australia’s 2006 FIBA World Championship win, required a full knee reconstruction after suffering the knee injury while playing in the EuroLeague prior to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

After missing what would have been her third Olympic Games, Taylor is expected to return in the early part of the season.
