In consultation with member States and Territories, Basketball Australia can confirm that the 2021 Under 20 Australian Junior Championships and Ivor Burge Championships will not proceed as scheduled in February 2021.
Against the backdrop of the pandemic and the uncertainty that COVID-19 presents to both preparation and event logistics, an early decision has been made not to move forward with the Championships in February.
Basketball Australia will now explore what opportunities there are to reschedule the Championships for a new date in 2021.
Basketball Australia Executive General Manager – Basketball, Paul Maley said, “While it’s incredibly disappointing that we’ve had to make this decision, it was done to ensure participants and organisers had clarity around preparation and logistics.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused much upheaval to our event calendar, however our primary focus will always remain the health and wellbeing of our basketball community.
“These Championships feature Australia’s best emerging talent and provides a platform for these athletes, coaches and officials to showcase their wares for higher honours.
“Basketball Australia will now work with event stakeholders to explore what options may be available to reschedule these Championships.”
