FIBA held the draw to determine preliminary round groups for the 2021 FIBA Under 19 Basketball World Cup for Men, with Australia drawn into Group D, alongside Mali, Turkey and the USA.
The Emus will open play against Mali on July 3, followed by Turkey on July 4 and close preliminary play against the USA on July 6. Times will be announced by FIBA at a later date.
Featuring Under 19 teams from 16 nations, the 2021 FIBA Under 19 Basketball World Cup for Men is scheduled to be held July 3 – 11 in Riga and Daugavpils, Latvia. In addition to Australia and host Latvia, teams that will take part in this year’s World Cup include Argentina, Canada, China, France, Japan, Lithuania, Mali, Puerto Rico, Senegal, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the USA.
Group A is comprised of Canada, Japan, Lithuania and Senegal; Group B includes Iran, Latvia, Puerto Rico and Serbia; while Group C features Argentina, France, Spain and South Korea.
Teams will play round-robin preliminary games against the other three teams in their respective pools. Teams will be seeded following the preliminary round based on group results, and all 16 teams advance to the round of 16. Winning teams continue to advance through the medal round, while the losing teams will compete in classification games for 9<sup>th </sup>– 16<sup>th</sup> places.
