After starring at the Australian Junior Championship level, Smith took her talents to the Nunawading Spectres in the SEABL where she made a splash off the bench in her debut season.
A move to the Centre of Excellence honed her skills and gave her a pathway to Stanford University while her international debut came in 2011 when she represented the Australian Sapphires at the FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship.
Smith represented the Sapphires at the Under-17 World Championship in the Netherlands the following year, where they finished fifth and she went on to play for the Under-19 Gems at the 2014 FIBA Oceania Champs and Under-19 World Championships in Russia in 2015, taking home the bronze medal.
She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team and was named the International Women's Player of the Year at the Basketball Australia Awards night.
In 2017, Smith was named to the Australian Opals and averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 58% from the field as the national team won the silver medal before she was named in the Opals team for the 2018 FIBA World Cup.
