The son of former NBL import Cecil Exum, Dante wasted no time announcing himself as one of the brightest talents to come out of Australia in some time.

At just 15, Exum was invited to the Australian Boomers squad under the watchful eye of then Head Coach Brett Brown – becoming the youngest ever player to be involved in the men’s national team squad.

This was the start of great things to come for the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence student, leading Australia to silver at the 2012 FIBA Under 17 World Championships – earning selection in the tournament All-Star Five team.

Standout performances at the World Championships and during several invitational camps in the USA attracted plenty of interest in the 196cm guard, with several high profile colleges eager to have Exum join their ranks.

Regarded as one of the most sought after prospects in the 2014 NBA Draft, Exum excelled during the 2013 FIBA Under 19 World Championship – leading the Australian Emus to the semi finals. His brilliant performance at the tournament didn’t go unnoticed, with the Melbourne-raised teenager named in the All-Star Five team.

Exum made his Boomers debut against New Zealand in the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championships at just 18 years of age. This propelled the youngster on to the world stage, announcing earlier this year his intentions to declare for the 2014 NBA Draft.

The 2014 NBA Draft saw Exum land in Utah, with the Jazz selecting him with pick 5. The young prospect played limited games in his rookie year, but showed vast improvement in each game.

An ACL injury while playing for the Boomers in 2015 has put a blanket over his second year, likely to miss the entire 2015/16 NBA season. Exum is expected to make a recovery in time for the 2016 Summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
