Basketball Australia is proud to support marriage equality and continues to endorse the #Yes vote in the Federal Government’s Australian Marriage Law Survey.
As one of more than a dozen organisations that signed the initial open letter of support for Australian Marriage Equality in October 2015, the endorsement stays true to the values held by Basketball Australia that the sport of basketball is truly Everyone’s Game.
Basketball Australian Chairman, Ned Coten said that basketball in Australia is a game for everyone regardless of age, ability, gender or sexual preference.
“For our organisation to remain true to our values, our Board believes that every Australian has the right to choose and on this important issue we choose YES.”
“We are confident that Basketball Australia’s support of marriage equality sends a message to the Australian basketball community and beyond that, together, we can make an impact,” Coten added.
“Basketball is an inclusive sport for every person on the planet from grassroots level right up to national teams,” said Basketball Australia CEO, Anthony Moore.
“We expect that our athletes feel welcomed, accepted and treated equally on the court and this is no different to how they should be treated off the court. The same is true for our coaches, referees, club administrators and volunteers.”
