"Kim did a fantastic job of leading the Pearls at the World Cup last year, and I am delighted to announce her as captain of the team for this tournament. Kim is a fabulous role model for the younger players and brings over 10 years of International experience to the role," Kim said.
"I'm really pleased to be doing this again and helping to keep the girls all focussed on playing their best. I really enjoy being the Pearls Captain and I called my mum straight away to tell her the good news".
Kim's mother, Gail, told us how this role has done much to improve Kim's confidence. Kim recently spoke at her pop's retirement home, keeping the many residents entertained with stories of her basketball journeys.
There was much laughter and many questions as Kim showed pictures from her basketball career.
Joining Kim in the leadership team are two new Vice-Captains, Mina Aldobasic and Molly Urquhart-Moran, both from Melbourne.
Mina thought something was wrong when the coach called her during the afternoon but then exclaimed "Are you serious!!"
Molly was at work when she got the call and once off the phone was so excited she started jumping up and down, much to the amazement of her work colleagues at Basketball Victoria.
Coach Davidson said "This is a tremendous recognition for these two players who are both very capable and who have huge potential. Both 19 years old, they represent the future of the Pearls team".
Completing today’s announcements is a new role of Leadership Advisor, given to Kim Larkin (Vic). With over 16 years of experience playing internationally for Australia, Kim will be an excellent mentor to the young team members, while still playing.
The Pearls depart for the Global Games on July 4th.
