Men's Wheelchair Basketball League tips off Saturday

The National Wheelchair Basketball League season tips off this weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday.

Three-time British Paralympian Jon Pollock will take the court for the Wheelkings in the opening game of the season against last year’s runners-up, the Wollongong’s Roller Hawks.

The Roller Hawks feature two members of the Beijing Paralympics gold medal-winning Rollers, Tristan Knowles and Brett Stibners. Knowles had a standout game against Wenty a year ago when he scored 47 points, pulled in 15 rebounds and handed out 15 assists.

The Dandenong Rangers host the reigning Champion Perth Wheelcats in the second game of the round before backing up for the final game of the round less than 24 hours later against the same opposition.

Australian Rollers Head Coach Ben Ettridge, who was nominated for the Australian Paralympic Committee’s Coach of the Year in 2008, is the Head Coach of the Wheelcats.

So if you’re in Sydney, get down to Auburn Basketball Centre at 4:30pm on Saturday to see all the action, and if you’re in Dandy you can see the Rangers and the Wheelcats in action on Saturday evening at 6:00pm or on Sunday at 1:00pm.
