U16 Champs: Day 2 Results

After two days of competition at the Australian U16 Championships the positioning in each pool is starting to take shape.

After three rounds in the Men’s Pool A VIC Metro and NSW Country are the only teams to remain undefeated. NSW Metro and VIC Country share the honours in Pool B with two wins apiece.

In the Women’s Division WA Metro and VIC Metro are atop the ladder of Pool A while QLD South leads Pool B with a 2-0 win-loss record.

Queensland South Men hung on for a one-point victory over Western Australia Metro, 80-79 in Round 3 of pool play on Sunday.

WA Metro had the ascendancy early with a 21-17 lead at the first break, but the Queenslanders levelled the score at the halftime break, 40-40.

QLD South made their break in the third quarter, getting away to a 13-point lead before WA Metro pegged it back to seven points at the final break.

In a thrilling final quarter the Western Australians pegged back the lead and were in front, 79-78 with 13 seconds remaining after Caleb Davis iced two free throws. Jason Ralph nailed a clutch jump shot to steal the lead for QLD South with 10 seconds remaining. WA Metro had two shot attempts in the dying second but could snatch back the advantage.
