Foley out of Opals camp due to injury

The Jayco Australian Opals arrived in Canberra today for the first camp of 2014 minus one player, with Adelaide Lightning star Jess Foley forced to withdraw after suffering a facial injury during the Lightning’s road win over the Canberra Capitals in WNBL Round 14 on Saturday night.

In a blow for the 30-year-old, she suffered a suspected fractured left cheekbone that will require surgery, ruling her out of the camp. Foley returned to Adelaide on Sunday night.

Foley is enjoying a production season in Adelaide, averaging 12.3 points (per game), 4.4 assists and 2.6 assists, shooting the three-ball at 42.6%.

After playing a key role helping the Townsville Fire reaching the 2013 WNBL Grand Final, Foley made the move south to Adelaide, re-joining the team she won the 2008 WNBL Championship with.

The remaining 22 players in the squad arrived at the Basketball Australian National Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Sunday, where they will be based until Wednesday.
