USA BASKETBALL ANNOUNCE 20-MAN SQUAD TO ATTEND FIBA WC TRAINING CAMP

Featuring 20 NBA players, including six who are new additions to the roster, USA Basketball today announced the squad from which the team will be selected for the 2019 FIBA World Cup as well as the Boomers vs. USA Basketball games in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on August 22 and 24.

USA Basketball will head into the training camp from August 5-9 in Las Vegas, led by head coach Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs).

The squad includes seven 2019 NBA All-Stars in Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans), James Harden (Houston Rockets), Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors), Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks) and Kemba Walker (Charlotte Hornets) plus two of the NBA’s brightest young stars in Donovan Mitchell (Utah Jazz) and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).

Eighteen of the 20 players boast prior USA Basketball experience and the group also includes five players who are Olympic gold medalists in Harrison Barnes (Sacramento Kings), Kevin Love (Cleveland Cavaliers), Davis, Harden and Lowry while Davis, Harden, Love, Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons) and Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets) are FIBA World Cup Champions.

“I am excited about getting to training camp in August and working with all of the players that have been selected to attend the USA National Team training camp in Las Vegas,” said USA Basketball head coach, Gregg Popovich.

“We’ve got an excellent cross-section of veteran USA Basketball and NBA players, as well as some exciting younger players who possess amazing versatility.

"I’m appreciative of commitment that our national team players continue to make, and the eagerness of the new players to become involved.

"Selecting a 12-man team will be extremely difficult. But I look forward to working with all of the players, representing the United States and doing so in a manner that all Americans will hopefully rally behind.”

The USA team will arrive in Melbourne on August 19 to prepare for the Australian sporting event of the year when they face the greatest Australian Boomers side ever assembled in front of over 110,000 fans across two massive games at Marvel Stadium.

The Boomers announced their squad last month featuring nine NBA players in Andrew Bogut (Golden State Warriors), Aron Baynes (Boston Celtics), Patty Mills (San Antonio Spurs), Joe Ingles (Utah Jazz), Mitch Creek (Minnesota Timberwolves), Ben Simmons and Jonah Bolden (Philadelphia 76ers) and Matthew Dellavedova and Deng Adel (Cleveland Cavaliers).

In addition, Bogut, Baynes, Mills, Ingles, Dellavedova, Chris Goulding (Melbourne United) and Brock Motum (Anadolu Efes) represented the Boomers at the Rio Olympics while Nick Kay (Perth Wildcats), Mitch McCarron (Melbourne United) and Nathan Sobey (Brisbane Bullets) competed in ten of the 12 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
