A couple of teams have made their move at the midway point of the group stage as they aim to assert themselves in their respective pools.
Vic Metro, the boys defending Champions, sit on top of Pool A with a 4-0 record but there was nothing easy about their win over Qld South as they needed overtime to finally prevail.
Setting the early pace, Vic Metro had a five-point lead in the second quarter but Qld South responded to take a game-high lead of 12 halfway through the third and they looked on track to cause the upset.
Vic Metro did not panic though and after trailing by five with 2:30 remaining, they scored the last five points of regulation through Tristan Devers (12 points, five steals) and Jarryd Remy (16 points) to force overtime.
They carried that momentum into the extra period, scoring the first six points, before a three-pointer from Kobe McDowell-White (20 points, nine assists) made things very interesting in the final minute.
The Vics held on though for a 78-77 win as Daniel Poelsma (19 points, ten rebounds) helped to counter the best efforts of Geordan Papacostas (12 points, 17 boards).
Qld South now sit at 2-1 ahead of a big double-header on Day 4 that sees them take on Tasmania and WA Country while SA Metro and ACT sit second and third respectively.
In Pool B, there is a bottle-neck at the top with every team still well in contention for a Quarter-Finals spot.
WA Metro, Vic Country, NSW Metro and SA Country all own 2-1 records while Qld North (1-2) and NT (0-3) are placed just outside them which sets up a very intriguing Day 4 that will help to separate the positions.
Two sides are undefeated in Pool A for the girls after Vic Metro survived a late comeback from WA Metro to move to 3-0 while Qld South are above them at 4-0 thanks to a whopping average winning margin of 58 points.
WA Metro, NSW Country and SA Country may be fighting it out for the last two spots with WA Metro set to take on ACT today while NSW Country and SA Country look to hand Vic Country and Qld South their first losses respectively.
Pool B sees SA Metro sitting a game clear of Vic Country and NSW Metro with a 3-0 record and NSW Metro face an important game today against Qld North who could take fourth spot with a win.
