He then played for Oregon State from 2009 and as a sophomore in 2010–11, Brandt earned first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors with 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
The following year, Brandt led the team in three-point field goal percentage at 49.2% and earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors again.
On 16 November 2012, Brandt tore his ACL in his right knee against Purdue that required surgery and forced him to miss the remainder of the 2012–13 season but returned as a red-shirted senior in 2013–14, finishing 11th in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (51.1%) and earned second-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors.
In 2014, Brandt signed a three-year deal with the Sydney Kings and he went on to earn the 2014–15 Rookie of the Year award after averaging 7.4 points and four rebounds per game while shooting around 50%.
After a solid stint with the Kings, Brandt signed with Lithuanian team Neptūnas Klaipėda in 2016 and helped them reach the finals with 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
On 12 May 2016, Brandt signed a two-year deal with the Perth Wildcats and played an impressive back-end of the year for the Wildcats as he scored in double figures in four out of the final 13 games of the season, providing a spark off the bench.
Perth finished the regular season in third place on the ladder with a 15–13 record but swept Cairns in the playoffs to make the Grand Final.
After scoring nine points in Game 1, Brandt stepped up to cover the loss of Matt Knight in Game 2 with 15 points and 11 rebounds before helping to clinch the Championship in another sweep with six points, seven rebounds and four assists in Game 3.
Internationally, Brandt was a part of the Emerging Boomers team that competed at the World Uni Games while making his debut for the Boomers in the Sino-Australia Challenge series in 2014.
In October 2017, Brandt was named to the 12-man Boomers team to compete at the FIBA Asia Cup where he was a key piece of the team claiming the gold medal.
In March 2019, Brandt and the Perth Wildcats defeated Melbourne United in a four-game series as Brandt claimed his second NBL championship within three years.
