Sarah Stewart

Born June 13 1976, Stewart was 17 years old she injured her right ankle which developed into reflex sympathetic dystrophy and after fracturing a bone in her leg and setting off dystrophy in her other leg, she required a wheelchair for mobility.

She took up wheelchair basketball while attending the University of NSW and joined the WNWBL in 2002 where she represented the Norths Bears.

In 2005, Stewart made the move to Hills Hornets before settling with the Sydney Uni Flames from 2011 while also enjoying stints in the NWBL.

During her debut season, Stewart was awarded the MVP of the Southern Challenge and the WNWBL Best New Talent.

Since then, she has been named in the All-Star Five in 2004, 2008-10 and 2012, won the 3.0 MVP in 2009 and 2010 as well as winning Championships in 2004-2010 with three different teams.

Stewart was first selected to play for the Gliders in 2003 and has since played over 150 games for her country.

Her international highlights include gold medals at the Asia-Oceania 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Qualifiers, the Asia-Oceania 2006 World Cup Qualifiers, and the 2009, 2010 and 2012 Osaka Cup.

She was named MVP of the tournament at the 2012 Osaka Cup and was All-Star Five for the Four-Nation International in Sydney in 2007 while also winning Paralympic medals in 2004 (silver), 2008 (bronze) and 2012 (silver).
