Boomers’ Head Coach, Dean Vickerman, welcomed over 100 coaches at the Boomers in the Burbs coaching masterclass on Saturday morning. Held at the State Basketball Centre, the exclusive event offered an unparalleled insight into the leadership of the national team.
Coinciding with the Boomers in the Burbs games, Basketball Australia provided coaches with the rare opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s best. Vickerman was joined by Jacob Chance, Assistant Coach of the Tasmania JackJumpers, Robbie McKinlay, Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence Head Coach, and Jamie Pearlman of the Adelaide 36ers.
Vickerman, a two-time NBL Coach of the Year, took to centre stage to share his personal experience into the world of coaching professional basketball and his journey into the Boomers camp as newly appointed head coach. Drawing from his illustrious career spanning over two decades and across three different countries, Vickerman provided invaluable insights into the differences between domestic and international coaching.
Chance, McKinlay and Pearlman took the reins and provided a display of screening and out-of-bounds plays. With the help of some of Knox Basketball’s emerging young stars, the coaches demonstrated hands-on and practical examples that left attendees with new tactics to take back to their own coaching practices.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Rob Coulter – Basketball Victoria Coaching Coordinator, Knox Basketball, and the State Basketball Centre for their generous assistance in hosting the masterclass. Above all, we extend a special thanks to coaches Dean Vickerman, Jacob Chance, Robbie McKinlay and Jamie Pearlman for their enthusiastic willingness to share their extensive knowledge that is deeply appreciated by all in attendance.
