Centre of Excellence graduate Mangnay signs NBA contract

Basketball Australia (BA) congratulates Centre of Excellence (CoE) alumni and NBL Centre Will Magnay on signing his first ever NBA contract in joining the New Orleans Pelicans.

Magnay, who has to date represented Australia in various international events including the Albert Schweitzer Tournament (2016) and World University Games (2019), has been playing for former Australian Boomers Head Coach Andrej Lemanis at the Brisbane Bullets for the past three seasons.

At just 22 years of age, Magnay was named the NBL’s 2019-2020 Most Improved Player, as well as receiving nominations for Best Defensive Player and Best Sixth Man.

Magnay recently broke the Bullets club record for most blocks in a regular season averaging 2.15 per game, along with 8.07 points per game, six rebounds per game and 1.15 assists per game, throughout his 2019-20 campaign.

CoE Men’s Program Head Coach Adam Caporn has praised Magnay on his ability and passion for the game, aswell as wished him the best of luck in his NBA career.

“We couldn’t be happier for Will and have the upmost faith that he will only continue to improve. We wish him the best in the upcoming NBA season.

“Will is obviously a very talented athlete, and he has also shown great commitment and resilience along his journey so far.

“He encapsulates what it means to be a fantastic teammate and has demonstrated a great ability to get better at his game year after year; qualities that I am sure will make him successful in the NBA.”

The NBA’s 2020-21 season is scheduled to commence on 22 December 2020.
