COBRAS WIN 2015 NWBL CHAMPIONSHIP

Completing a fairtytale weekend, the Kilsyth Cobras have won three straight games to take the 2015 NWBL Championship against the Red Dust Heelers while the Wollongong Roller Hawks earned third place in their playoff with the RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets.

Despite finishing third at the end of the regular season, Kilsyth overcame a 13-18 opening term to run out convincing 72-63 victors.

Tristan Knowles was superb throughout the playoffs and capped off the weekend with 32 points, six rebounds and 13 assists while playing every minute of the Grand Final.

As the Heelers cut the deficit to four with just over six minutes remaining, Knowles took over to score 11 points in the final term while he was ably assisted by Shawn Russell (17 points, eight rebounds for the game) and Daniel Del Toso (12 and six).

Scoring over two-thirds of Red Dust's total, Brad Ness was unstoppable at the other end with a game-high 41 points on 18-32 shooting to go with 14 boards and seven assists. Adam Deans (ten points, 16 rebounds) helped the Heelers to six more boards but they were out-scored 24-38 in the paint.

In the playoff for third place, Wollongong opened up a seven-point lead at the first change which they maintained throughout the contest for a 70-65 win although the Spinning Bullets did reduce the margin to a one-possession game inside the final minute.

Agustin Alonso (26 points, six rebounds, nine assists) fought bravely while Matt McShane (eight, six and seven) was solid all over the court but they were unable to contain Brett Stibners (21, nine and four) and Luke Pople (26, seven and five with three steals).
