Commonwealth Games: 3×3 Basketball Schedule

The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham is set to tip off on Friday at 4:45am AEST with the opening ceremony, and for the very first time, 3×3 basketball is included.

3×3 is a fast-paced, physical, and full of action game. There’s only half a court and just one hoop for both teams to attack with just 12 seconds on the shot clock instead of the 24 permitted in full court basketball.

Each team is made up of three players, plus one substitute. Shots scored from inside the arc-shaped scoring zone are worth one point each, while shots taken from behind the arc area put two on the board.

The first team to 21 points wins – if no team has reached that milestone after ten minutes, the team in the lead claims the win.

It will be a Commonwealth Games debut for all but one of the squad members, with Jesse Wagstaff returning from a 2018 Commonwealth Games appearance in the Gold Coast where he won gold with the Boomers in the conventional 5×5 format.

While para-athlete, Amber Merritt, will be coming off the back of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics after finishing in ninth place with the Gliders team.

Games can be watched across the Seven Network.
