FIBA President Bob Elphinston from Australia has been elected Council Member of the Association of Olympic Summer Sports Federations (ASOIF) yesterday, writes Fiba.com.
“I am very honoured to take on this responsibility”, said President Elphinston.
“I will do my very best to represent and protect the interests of all International Sports Federations within the Olympic family.”
The election took place during the ASOIF General Assembly in Denver, USA, during the annual Sportaccord Conference. Other elected Council Members included IAAF Vice President Sergey Bubka from the Ukraine, UCI President Pat McQuaid from Ireland and ISAF President Göran Petersson from Sweden.
FITA President Denis Oswald from Switzerland was re-elected as ASOIF President for the next term of office.
ASOIF is a non-profit Association, and its membership consists of the 26 International Sports Federations that are on the Summer Olympic Programme. It has been established in 1983 to coordinate and defend the common interests of its members. AOSIF’s mission is to unite, promote and support its members, preserve their autonomy, while coordinating their common interests and goals.
Elphinston was also named to the Board of the World Masters Games this week.
