Basketball Australia is pleased to announce its Gangurrus men’s and women’s teams that will compete in the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2023 later this month in Singapore.
Taking place between Wednesday 29 March and Sunday 2 April – and marking the sixth edition of the tournament – Australia’s men’s and women’s team have both claimed medals in the previous four Asia Cups.
Lining up in the green and gold for the women will be 21/22 WNBL MVP and Opals forward, Anneli Maley, Commonwealth Games bronze medallists in 3×3, Alex Wilson, Marena Whittle and Adelaide Lightning shooting guard, Lauren Mansfield, with Miela Goodchild and Emma Clarke listed as emergencies.

Taking the court for the men will be Boomer and Perth Wildcat forward, Todd Blanchfield, power forward Daniel Johnson, 3×3 specialist Andrew Steel and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Lucas Walker, with Tanner Krebs and Josh Davey listed as emergencies.

Leading the teams will be head coaches Damon Lowery and Dave Biwer who will take the reins of the women’s and men’s sides respectively.
This competition marks an important step on the pathway to the 2024 Olympic Games, with the winners of the Asia Cup securing a spot in the 3×3 Paris qualifying tournament to be held in the first half of next year.
Although the men’s team is seeded eighth heading into the competition, they have won gold the past three years and will be looking to claim their fourth championship in 2023. Currently sitting in pool B with Japan who are seeded second, they will need to wait until the qualifying draw to see which other nation will join them in their pool.
Seeded 11th, our women’s team – who won the title in 2017 and 2019 – are in qualifying draw B and will join Thailand and Qatar if they proceed to the pool rounds.
