A team of 11 players has been announced for the Australian Goannas as they depart for Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei ahead of the 2015 World Deaf Basketball Championships from July 4-12.
This will be the third tournament in which Australia have sent a team and the players were presented their uniforms at a farewell dinner during the week on behalf of Basketball Australia.
With 16 sides competing, the Goannas have been drawn into Group C. They will play Poland on July 5 before facing 2002 champions Greece, the USA the following day and with a rest day scheduled for July 8.
Finals will begin on July 9 with the top eight teams qualifying.
Victoria has six representatives in the Australian side, including captain Mark Bilyj. Ben Morrison and Halil Durnaoglu can rotate between a guard and forward position while the front court will be bolstered by Patrick Lane, Jake Harwood and Shane Crick.
As vice-captain, Samuel Cartledge will join fellow New South Welshman Lachlan Jackson (power forward/centre) and Jordan Woolmer (guard). From Queensland, Morgan Williams plays as a small forward with South Australian shooting guard Harry Maggs rounding out the team.
