Ian Silk, Chief Executive of Australia’s largest super fund AustralianSuper, has joined the Basketball Australia Board.
Ian was last week elected by the member associations of Basketball Australia to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Rob Marcolina in December last year.
Basketball Australia is very excited to welcome Ian to the Board. He brings a balance of strategic perspectives with particular strength in contemporary corporate governance, with experience on sporting and not-for-profit boards.
Ian is a former club basketball player and a keen follower of our sport and understands the current basketball landscape.
Basketball Australia’s Chairman Ned Coten said, “I am very excited to have someone of the calibre of Ian Silk join our Board. Ian has a proven track record as a strongly connected business leader and strategic thinker.
“He is commercially focused, bringing both passion and a critical skill set to us at exactly the right time.
“The future of our sport has been strengthened with Ian’s appointment.”
Ian is a member of the Australian Government’s Financial Literacy Board and a Director of Industry Super Australia and was previously the Chief Executive of the Australian Retirement Fund.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Labour Relations Law while he was appointed Chief Executive at Australian Super on 1 July 2006.
Ian will commence duties immediately and will join the Board for the next meeting on Monday, 3 April 2017.
