Respected United States collegiate coach Kerry Rupp is the first of the keynote presenters announced for the 2018 Basketball Australia (BA) Coaches Conference, to be held at the BA Centre of Excellence May 7 and 8.
The annual Coaches Conference provides coaches from all around Australia with the opportunity to learn from leading presenters, share ideas with colleagues and gain exposure to some of the best practice techniques and methods of the global game.
More than 130 coaches attended the 2017 event and with a host of quality presenters again set to share their knowledge, the 2018 event promises to be the biggest yet.
The conference will include on-court clinics from leading coaches, as well as presentations on leadership, sports science and technology.
Regarded as one of the pre-eminent player development coaches in the collegiate game, Kerry Rupp is no stranger to Australia, having presented numerous clinics and worked as a specialist coach with the Boomers leading into Beijing and the Opals prior to Rio.
The former Louisiana Tech University head coach has an extensive resume, having served as an associate head coach at perennial powerhouse Indiana University while also working as an assistant coach to icon, the late Rick Majerus at Utah.
Currently in the role of associate head coach at Oregon State University, Rupp has forged a reputation as one of most astute defensive minds in the college game and is also renowned for knowledge around individual athlete development.
Basketball Australia Head of High Performance Coach Development Peter Lonergan said having Rupp as one of the keynote presenters at the 2018 Coaches Conference was a great bonus for the event, now in its third year.
“Kerry is a great friend of Australian basketball and we are fortunate he is able to present at this year’s conference,” Lonergan said.
“His attention to detail and passion for player development makes him an ideal clinician and no doubt we will all benefit from his knowledge and willingness to share his ideas on our great game.”
