Australian Olympian, Lauren Jackson, has been appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her outstanding services and contribution to the sport of basketball.

Jackson, who is currently overseas, was excited to accept this appointment.

“As a proud Australian, this is an amazing honour and one I am sure will become even more special over time.”

Jackson joins an illustrious group of Australians who have been appointed to the Order of Australia including Dr Gabrielle Hollows and Mr Ron Clarke MBE.

This honour adds to her extensive list of achievements both on and off the court. Jackson is currently recovering from knee surgery and begins her rehabilitation program in two weeks.

“I am hopeful this recent surgery is the final part of what has been a long process. I am really looking forward to getting back on court in readiness for the upcoming 2015/16 WNBL season with the Canberra Capitals, and being part of the Australian National team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.”
