Leilani Mitchell and Ryan Broekhoff’s EuroCup success has continued with both Aussies advancing to the Quarter-Finals of the women’s and men’s competitions.
As a member of Turkish club Hatay, Mitchell took on KSC Szekszard in the Round of 8 in a two-game home-and-away series for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
Having only escaped the previous round with a +3 aggregate margin, Hatay then won another thriller in the first match-up, 76-74.
Trailing by three at three-quarter time, Hatay utilised the combination of Mitchell and Courtney Paris (who finished with 20 points and 20 rebounds) with the Aussie point guard adding three points, two assists and a steal in the final term to finish with 11 points on 3-4 three-point shooting, three rebounds, eight assists and two steals for the game.
A week later, Hatay were keen to avoid another close game and exploded out of the gates to lead by 15 at quarter-time.
They then took the second term 30-17 and were in complete control, going on to advance to the Quarter-Finals with a 98-65 victory while Mitchell only needed 28 minutes to record eight points, eight assists and two steals.
The EuroCup women will now take a month’s break before returning for the final games through March and April.
In the men’s EuroCup, Broekhoff and Lokomotiv Kuban continue to excel as they have taken their winning streak to 15 straight games.
They have now locked up top spot in Group G which means, with a game still to come, Lokomotiv Kuban have already booked their place in the Quarter-Finals.
Struggling in their most recent clash, Broekhoff caught fire late to secure an 11-point victory as he scored all nine of his points in the fourth period to go with six boards and three assists.
Now averaging 12.3 points, Broekhoff sits second for the team while leading them with ridiculous numbers on 69.2% shooting from the field and 50.6% shooting from beyond the arc.
