Basketball Australia is saddened to have learned of the passing of former Australian Women’s National team representative, Maureen Elphinston (nee Reilly).
Maureen represented the Australian senior women’s national team on six occasions including at the 1967 World Championships in the former Czechoslovakia. A passionate supporter of NSW and Australian basketball, particularly women’s basketball, Maureen was incredibly proud that Australia was set to host the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Sydney. Her passing on Thursday 28 January 2021 has impacted many who knew her. Basketball Australia extends its deepest sympathies to Maureen’s husband, Bob Elphinston OAM and their two children, Brett and Nicole plus those closest to her.
