Rollers Take Thailand In International Friendlies Tour

The Australian Rollers have made their way to Thailand for one of their final hit out

The Australian Rollers have made their way to Thailand for one of their final hit out before the 2022 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation World Championships in Dubai next month.

The team will play a series of friendlies against Thailand and South Korea between 8-14 May, with the invitational tournament running alongside the Asian Para Games in Suphanburi.

These games form part of the team’s preparations ahead of the World Championships which take place from 9-20 June. The Championships were initially scheduled for last year but were postponed to 2023.

Rollers’ Head Coach, Craig Friday, said coming together as a team as much as possible in the lead up to benchmark events is always a positive for the group and a key learning from Tokyo.

“It’s awesome to get some more games under our belt before the World Champs,” Friday said. “One of the learnings from the Tokyo Paralympic Games was that we didn’t spend enough time together as a group, or take part in enough practice games, so this is a great opportunity to participate in practice games under our belt with our team.

“It’s also a final chance for us to look at our combinations as well as make some minor adjustments to some of our strategy.

“It’s really nice to be back in charge of the team after some time away and I’m excited for the opportunity.”

The Rollers will have one final hit out ahead of the Word Champs in Istanbul, facing off against the USA, Japan and Turkey between 29 May and 4 June.

The final team that will compete at the World Championships in June will be named later this month.
