With just one week to go, Australia’s top young ballers will be battling it out on the west coast this winter as Perth will welcome over 400 talented athletes from across the nation.
Hosted at the Warwick Basketball Centre in Western Australia from July 1-9, the Foot Locker Under-16 National Championships will mark the third National Championships for the year following the Under-20 and Under-18 events held in Geelong and Brisbane earlier this year.
After securing the bronze medal in last year's Under-16 National Championships, the Western Australian Metro boys enter this year's tournament with their eyes firmly set on a home-state gold, while Victoria Metro will be looking for a hat trick of victories with a third-consecutive championship win after defeating Queensland South in last years final.
The Victorian Metro girls will be determined to reclaim their place at the top, following an upset to their impressive four-year streak of winning gold medals, courtesy of New South Wales Metro last year.
The host state will set the stage for an exciting start to the championships as the curtains rise on Saturday 1 July, kicking the tournament off with two games showcasing both Western Australian Metro teams.
The girl's division will open the championships when Western Australia Metro and Australian Capital Territory go head-to-head at 4:30 PM (AWST) as both teams vie for an early victory, followed by the Western Australia Metro boys, who will step onto the court to face off against Victoria Country at 6:15 PM (AWST.)
The competition will escalate as the pool games unfold during the initial six days, paving the way for the quarterfinals, which will commence on Friday, 7 July.
On Saturday, the semi-finals will take place and set the stage for the following day as the championship games and closing ceremony will bring the nine-day event to a close. KommunityTV will be bringing you exclusive coverage of the championships, bringing the action to you, wherever you are.
