There is just one week to go until seven wheelchair basketball clubs from around the country descend upon the Morayfield Sports and Events Centre in Queensland for the National Wheelchair Tournament.
Held across July 14-16, it’s the first time Wheelchair League tournament has been modelled on Basketball Australia’s (BA) successful National Championships format, where all teams travel to one location to compete in the Championships – allowing for clubs to all come together for a festival of wheelchair basketball.
The tournament will see four gender neutral, and three women’s teams will compete across three days for their respective titles.
The competition is also a pathway to senior representation and national team selection.
In the gender-neutral category there’s the Wollongong Roller Hawks – who took the spoils last year and are the reigning champs – Southern Districts Spartans, Perth Wheelcats and Darwin Salties. In the women’s division it will be the Perth Wheelcats, Sydney University Flames and the Blues Wheelchair Basketball Club looking to claim the major prize.
Tipping off on Friday 14 July with the pool phase, there will be a total of eight games in the gender-neutral category, and five games in the women’s category, with finals to be played on Sunday 16 July.

Getting there:
Morayfield Sport and Events Centre is located at 298 Morayfield Road, Morayfield.
The venue is located behind Bunnings Morayfield and the Morayfield Community Hall.
- As you come through the roundabout – turn left into the venue driveway.
- You will need to drive past a park (on your right-hand side).
- You will then need to drive past the Morayfield Community Hall on your (right hand side).
- The Morayfield Sports and Events Centre is located at the far end of the car park.
Public transport
- The closest train station is Morayfield, which is approximately 2km away.
- The local bus service number 660 travels from Morayfield train station to stop outside the centre of Morayfield. From the bus stop – it is approximately a 10-minute walk.
