The Gliders have finished off their campaign at the Asia Oceania Zone Championships with a bang against Thailand.
Defeating the host nation 46-41, the Gliders escaped with a six-point win to mark their first victory of the week.
Head Coach Craig Campbell said he is pleased with today’s outcome and is looking ahead to the future of the Gliders path to Paris.
“It’s always good to finish on a win. We were able to play wth more of the same intent as we showed against China earlier this week, contesting possessions, and that's what is required to help us build to what we're capable of.
“We’ve had a lot of illness throughout the week, and we are still not playing at full strength, so the fact that we’ve able to work together and push through that, the future of the Gliders looks bright.
“We will now turn our focus turns to the draw tonight for the repechage.”
Repechage will take place in Japan in April and the Aussies will look to face Canada, Spain, Germany, Algeria, France (hosts of Paralympics), Japan (hosts of Repechage) and Thailand.
“We’ll be going to the same stadium as the friendlies in February, so it’s almost like it’s a home court for us. We are lucky, our relationship with Japanese Wheelchair Basketball means that we get to go there a lot to play and get international experience and become familiar with the area,” Campbell added.
The Group Draw for the 2024 IWBF Repechage takes place Sunday 21 January 2024, at 2:00 AEDT.
