Basketball Australia is mourning the loss of Sharon Arnold a beloved member of the referee family and a respected contributor to the game.
A career spanning more than 50 years Sharon’s impact will be felt for generations as she mentored, coached and inspired up and coming referees.
Sharon was a trailblazer becoming the first female NBL referee, and the first female to referee a gold medal Paralympic game.
Sharon was a familiar face at SEABL and WNBL games clocking up over 500 games.
In recognition of Sharon’s contribution, she will be inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame later this year. Sharon’s nomination was received last year receiving overwhelming support for her incredible career.
Our thoughts are with Sharon’s family at this time as we remember a pioneer of our sport.
