Australia’s Boomers have added a massive international series to their 2024 Olympics preparations and will play against the USA and Serbia in Abu Dhabi for the USA Basketball Showcase
The Boomers face an all-star USA on 15 July and Serbia's finest on 16 July in the first ever international fixtures in the United Arab Emirates.
From Jason Smith’s perspective as Basketball Australia’s Head of High Performance, this pre-Olympics series was essential to the progression of Boomers basketball.
"Playing against the USA Men's Basketball team is an invaluable opportunity for our athletes and coaches to test their skills against the best in the world. It's not just a game; it's a chance to refine our strategies, strengthen our team cohesion, and elevate our performance to Olympic standards,” said Jason Smith, Executive General Manager of High Performance.
“These games also allow us to continue to strengthen our relationship with Basketball USA and Basketball Serbia, to build mutual respect and collaboration within the global basketball community."
Details of the series coincided with the announcement of USA’s 12-man team for Paris 2024. USA Basketball Men’s National Team managing director Grant Hill took the competition into consideration with the selection process.
“We have the utmost respect for the level of competition we will face this summer. The Olympics represent the pinnacle of sport and the world will be watching the USA as we play in the toughest basketball tournament in history,” said Grant Hill, USA Basketball Board of Directors.
