Three Opals earn tournament honours

Alanna Smith, Ezi Magbegor and Jade Melbourne all earned tournament honours for their impact during the Olympic campaign.

There was added celebration for three Opals on the final day of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Alanna Smith, Ezi Magbegor and Jade Melbourne all earned tournament honours for their strong form and impact on Australia’s bronze-medal winning campaign.

Smith produced career-best form for Australia in Lille then Paris where she averaged 11.5 points, 8 rebounds and 2.2 assists and was recognised with a place in the All-Star Five.

Magbegor was selected in the All-Second team for her tournament which featured 11.5 points, 6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Her crowning moment came against Belgium in the bronze medal game with a stunning 30-point-13-rebound double-double.

Just 21 years old and playing in her first Olympic Games, Jade Melbourne was awarded Rising Star of the women’s tournament.

Averaging 7.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game, Melbourne lit up with a match-winning display (18 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) in the Quarter Final against Serbia.

Starting in all six of the Opals games, Melbourne averaged 27.7 minutes per game through out the Finals.
