New resource from Basketball Australia focuses on participant culture and community

Basketball is a community. But the game will only grow if we all play our role.

Basketball Australia is excited to announce the launch of 'Being a Better Participant ', a learning resource designed to foster positive engagement and enrich the basketball experience for all players, parents, and participants across the nation.

This online course, available at no cost, is a pivotal part of Basketball Australia’s commitment to building a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment within the sport.

The Being a Better Participant  module is now accessible to the entire basketball community, from grassroots participants to seasoned athletes. The module is tailored to enhance understanding of key principles such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and community involvement, ensuring that everyone involved in the sport—whether on the court or in the stands—can contribute positively to the basketball experience.

As part of a strategic rollout, Basketball Australia will be integrating this module into the upcoming Schools and U14's National Championships, ensuring that parents and participants attending these prestigious events can benefit from the insights and guidance provided. By making this module a part of the championships, Basketball Australia aims to set a new standard for participant behaviour and engagement in junior basketball.

"Having the Being a Better Participant  module available is a significant step towards creating a basketball culture that values respect, teamwork, and positive participation," said Neil Gray, Community Capability & Education Manager at Basketball Australia."

We believe that by educating participants at all levels, we can foster a more enjoyable and inclusive environment for everyone involved in the sport."

The course is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing participants to complete it at their own pace. It features interactive content, real-world examples, and practical tips that are relevant to players, parents, coaches, and officials alike.

Whether you’re new to basketball or a seasoned veteran, the Being a Better Participant module offers valuable insights that can help you contribute to the game in a meaningful way.

Basketball Australia encourages everyone in the basketball community to take advantage of this free resource. By doing so, you’ll be playing a crucial role in helping to shape a positive and supportive environment within Australian basketball.
