Seven Consulting Opals Ezi Magbegor and Alanna Smith have earned WNBA recognition for their outstanding defensive efforts in 2024.
Seattle Storm forward/centre Magbegor was selected in the WNBA All-Defensive First Team for the first time on Monday after making the Second Team in both 2022 and 2023.
The 25-year-old also finished third in the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Award behind winner Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx and runner-up Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
In her first season with the Lynx, Smith was selected to the All-Defensive Second Team.
It’s the first time the 28-year-old forward has achieved WNBA honours.
Smith is currently competing in the WNBA Semi-Finals with her Lynx locked in a battle with Connecticut Sun.
In the other Semi-Final series, Opals Head Coach Sandy Brondello and her New York Liberty have a 1-0 lead over reigning back-to-back champions Las Vegas Aces following their 87-77 victory in the early hours of Monday morning.
It’s been a big year for Magbegor, Smith and Brondello who reached the podium at the Paris Olympics with the bronze-medal winning Opals.
