Brondello guides New York Liberty into the WNBA Finals

The No.1 takes the series 3-1 and is through to the championship decider.

Seven Consulting Opals Head Coach Sandy Brondello guided New York Liberty into the WNBA Finals on Monday.

After winning the first two games of the best-of-five Semi-Final Series at home, the Liberty fell to reigning back-to-back champions Los Vegas Aces, 95-81, on their court on Saturday.

But the No.1 seed bounced back in style to prevail 76-62, take the series 3-1 and win through to the championship decider.

A foundation franchise, the Liberty have never won a title and are now a step closer and will have home-court advantage in the series which tips off on Friday.

It’s a decade since Brondello won her first, and only, WNBA championship in her first year at the helm of the Phoenix Mercury.

There could be the double the Australian flavour if Minnesota Lynx can overcome Connecticut Sun in the fifth and final game of their intriguing Semi-Final Series.

Paris Olympian Alanna Smith is a key piece of the Lynx and had 9 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in her team’s loss to the Sun on Monday.

With the series now tied at 2-2, the decider will be played on Wednesday morning, AEDT.
