The U23 Spinners closed out an undefeated campaign at the IWBF Asia Oceania Championship with a 67 – 41 victory against Japan in the gold medal game.
Jaylen Brown produced another stellar performance with 36 points, 51.5% from the field, co-captain Eithen Leard had 15 points, 11 assists.
Brown was awarded Most Valuable Player for the tournament, Leard the 2.0 – 2.5 MVP and the dynamic duo were named in the 2024 U23 Asia Oceania All-Start Team.
The tournament was a double win for Australia. To go with the Asia Oceania gold, the Spinners have now also qualified for the U23 World Championships in Brazil next year.
A solid pack of young players with experience will be viable for 2025 with 9 of the U23 Spinners getting their first taste of international play at the recent AOZ's. Brown, Leard and Victorian Mitchell Bond were the only players with prior national team experience.
Alexander Blackmore from South Australia was a defensive rock for the Spinners and proved a challenge for the opposition. Mitch Bond finished 3rd in total points for the Spinners with 49 alongside 29 rebounds, 19 assists on the tournament.
