Andrew Bogut inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2025

The triple Olympian will be honoured as a member of the Class of 2025 at an enshrinement ceremony in Bahrain in May.

Andrew Bogut will become the ninth Australian to have their brilliant career and contribution to the sport acknowledged with induction to the FIBA Hall of Fame.

The triple Olympian will be honoured as a member of the Class of 2025 at an enshrinement ceremony in Bahrain in May.

The 40-year-old will be inducted alongside Spanish legend Pau Gasol, famed former USA coach Mike Kryzewski, triple Olympic guards Dawn Staley (USA) and Leonor Borrell (Cuba), Serbian Olympic gold medallist Ratko Radovanovic, Portugal champion Ticha Penicherio. triple FIBA World Cup representative Fadi El Khatkib and FIBA Afro Basket gold medal-winning captain Alphone Bile (Cote d’lvoire).

Bogut joins fellow Aussies Penny Taylor, Robyn Maher, Tom Maher, Michele Timms, Jan Stirling, Andrew Gaze, Lindsay Gaze and Al Ramsay in FIBA’s prestigious Hall of Fame for their impact as players, coaches or contributors.

“I got a random text from Jason Smith (EGM of High Performance at Basketball Australia) saying that FIBA are trying to get a hold of you," said Andrew Bogut.

"So my instant thoughts were, ‘oh what have I done?’. But I finally connected with FIBA and yeah, I mean, it was just a pleasant surprise and I’m looking forward to the announcement and seeing it all unfold,” said Bogut.

"It seems like an eternity since my playing career. I've been retired around five years. Your career goes so quick and then the post career slows down a bit when you start to unwind and get involved in different things, seems like an eternity ago,"

"It is kind of strange being removed from playing only a little while ago to being honoured. I guess for myself, getting Australia into a position where it is now, as a top five ranked team in the world. That's what I’m really proud of." added Bogut.

Born and raised in Melbourne’s outer south-east, Bogut made his FIBA debut at the 2003 Under-19 World Cup where he was crowned tournament MVP for his dominant form in Australia’s gold-medal winning campaign in Greece.

The following year, he became an Olympian at age 20 in Athens and went on to represent the Boomers with distinction at another two Olympics Beijing (2008) then Rio (2016) in addition to two FIBA World Cup campaigns (2006, 2019) and a FIBA Oceania Championship appearance (2015) for a total of 33 games for the Boomers.

Bogut was awarded Basketball Australia’s Gaze Medal in 2016 for his performances internationally.

The 207cm centre, who carved out a reputation globally for the impact he had at both ends of the floor, made his final appearance in the green and gold at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

He was the first Australian to be selected with pick No.1 in the NBA draft (Milwaukee Bucks, 2005) and a decade later, Bogut won an NBA championship in 2015 with the Golden State Warriors.

He played a total of 682 games across 14 NBA seasons for the Bucks, Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
