She Hoops to expand impact with Play Our Way funding

The investment will allow She Hoops to scale and engage local associations and a range of basketball touchpoints with an Officials, Coaches and Leaders Program.

Basketball Australia will receive almost $1 million in funding from the Australian Government which will allow She Hoops to scale to a new level.

A $998,000 grant was awarded to Basketball Australia from the Government’s $200 million Play Our Way Program, which funds initiatives to make it easier for women and girls to access, participate and remain involved in sport and physical activity.

The investment will be channelled into She Hoops with a three-year cycle of programs in 33 locations.

Lauren Jackson AO OLY is driving the project as the Head of Women at Basketball Australia and founder of She Hoops.

The programs will be designed to engage local associations and engage a range of basketball touchpoints with Officials, Coaches and Leaders Programs.

“Sport has great benefits for our health and mental health as individuals, and also brings people and communities together,” said Hon. Anika Wells MP, Australian Minister for Sport.

“The She Hoops Officials Coaches and Leaders Program will give hundreds of women and girls a fabulous opportunity to get into basketball, improve their skills or take the next step by becoming a coach or official,”
