The Australian Pearls have completed a dominant performance at the 2015 INAS Global Games, taking home the gold and bronze medals in the 3×3 women’s tournament while the Boomerangs fell narrowly to the reigning champions in a playoff for third place.
Undefeated through the entire tournament, the Australia Gold team proved too good for Japan White in the gold medal game, winning 15-5 although the scoreline belied the tough nature of the contest.
Taking out the Championship Top Scorer award, Eliza Mills controlled the opposition’s leading scorer at the defensive end while leading all five members of Aus Gold on the scoreboard.
Australia Green had also impressed over the week, despite dropping a couple of games, but were exceptional in the bronze medal playoff against Japan Black.
Having played them the day before and winning 14-11, the Australians executed their game plan perfectly with a number of screens on the perimeter which allowed easy baskets.
The 8-6 scoreline was narrowed by a two-pointer on the buzzer from Japan Black but Aus Green had controlled most of the match as Taylor Anderson scored four points while Amy Howard and Kate Leckenby added the other four.
In a tough competition, the Boomerangs held their own with a chance to play off for a medal a strong result. They fell to Portugal , who had won the tournament at the 2011 Global Games, by 12 points but showed a strong team-oriented style of play across the week.
