Born the son of two semi-professional basketballers, Josh Green took to the game quickly and never looked back.
Green began organised basketball at five-years-old, with his mother coaching his teams from the sidelines. As an 11-year-old, Green captained the NSW Metro side to a national championship.
Two years later, Green relocated with his family to Phoenix, Arizona, where the now 20-year-old’s talents on the hardwood were honed against the best concentration of junior competition on the globe.
Once in Arizona, Green enrolled at Mountain Ridge High School and quickly began to impress scouts and recruiters. In 2017, Green transferred to IMG Academy in Florida, a boarding school known for its development of high school basketball prospects.
Green scored 19 points in his last high school game to lead IMG to victory in the national championship final over La Lumiere, and was subsequently awarded the game’s Most Valuable Player award.
After receiving offers to play collegiately for North Carolina, Villanova, Kansas and the University of Southern California, Green chose to commit to the University of Arizona. A standout year for the Wildcats positioned the Sydney native to forego his college eligibility and enter the 2020 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 18th pick of the first round.
Josh makes his Olympic debut in Tokyo.
