Hall of Fame Class: 2013
This year Kathy Foster makes history as the first Tasmanian player to be inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. Originating from the town of New Norfolk, Foster dominated the WNBL throughout the 1980’s. Over a career of 135 WNBL games, she won the Most Valuable Player award in 1985, 1986 and 1989, and earned All-Star Five selection in 1989 and 1990.
Foster would also take out the Halls Medal as the best and fairest player in South Australia while playing for the North Adelaide Rockets in 1985. On the international stage, Foster was a member of one of the first Australian Opals teams to represent Australia at an Olympic Games, travelling to Los Angeles in 1984, she then went on to represent the Opals at two World Championships in 1983 and 1986. After retiring as a player in 1992, Foster has coached at a number of levels, with a particular focus on her students at The Fahan School in Sandy Bay.
