Being a veteran in the Boomers squad now, McCarron was awarded a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport from 2010-12.
Graduating from there, he went to the US to pursue college basketball at the Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2012-15.
He immediately signed a contract with Palencia Baloncesto in Spanish for a year, before going onto play in the NBL for the Cairns Taipans in 2016.
McCarron continued to play for the Taipans until 2018 and after a short stint with Olimpija basketball club in Slovenian, Mitch signed a three-year contract in mid 2018 with Melbourne United, where he was part of the 2021 NBL Championship winning side.
In 2021, McCarron signed a three-year deal with the Adelaide 36ers.
On the international stage, Mitch has been apart of the 2017 and 2022 FIBA Asia Cup Gold medal campaigns.
