Biography

The heart-and-soul of the Boomers program, Mills will look to lead the Boomers to the podium at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Born and raised in Canberra, Mills first played basketball for The Shadows, a small Indigenous junior club formed by his parents Benny and Yvonne.

He represented his country at junior level before adding to the honour roll of Australians who have enjoyed brilliant US college careers for the Gaels at Saint Mary’s.

Mills was drafted by the Portland with pick 55 in the 2009 draft and spent two seasons with the Trail Blazers. He would suit up for the Melbourne Tigers during the 2011 NBA lock out and gain experience playing in China.

Upon returning to the US, Mills joined San Antonio and carved out a successful career with the Spurs including an NBA championship in 2014.

The third Indigenous Australian to represent the Boomers, Mills has proudly worn the green and gold at four Olympics with 2023 marking his third World Cup campaign.

A flag bearer at the Tokyo Olympics, Mills led Australia to its first ever men’s Olympic medal with an inspirational 42-point display in the bronze medal game against Slovenia.

Did You Know?
Mills uncle Danny Morseu was the first Indigenous Australian to play basketball in the green and gold, representing Australia at the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
