Tess Madgen is an experienced leader and guard who has captained Australia at its last two major FIBA tournaments.
The 33-year-old is a two-time World Cup medallist (silver 2018, bronze 2022) and achieved her lifelong dream of representing her country at an Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
A veteran who’s career spanned stints with the AIS, Bendigo Spirit, Bulleen, Melbourne Boomers and Townsville Fire, Madgen won her first WNBL championship in 2021-22 with the Boomers.
Her crowning glory came in 2022 on home soil when she was captain of the Australian Opals team which finished on the podium at a home FIBA World Cup, beating Canada to win a bronze medal.
Less than 12 months later, she captained Australia to another bronze medal in Sydney this time at the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup.
Madgen will strive to become a dual Olympian should the Opals qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
