Alistair Ramsay MBE OAM

Bursting to prominence as NSW ABA State secretary in 1954 and staying in that role for ten years, this Legend was a 14-year secretary to the Australian Basketball Union.

He established NSW Basketball’s first full time administration office in 1960 and was instrumental when FIBA established the Oceania Zone in 1967.

He was a key member of the Olympic Technical Committees for Munich, Moscow, and Montreal and is a life member of Basketball NSW and Basketball Australia.

Over a long career he was involved in the conduct of ten Olympic Games and as many World Championships.

In 1980 this remarkable man was awarded an MBE for services to the game of basketball and that was followed with an Order of Australia Medal in 1988.

Every year, cross-Tasman rivals The Australia Post Boomers and New Zealand Tall Blacks play for a shield named in his honour.

– Heavily involved in FIBA and established the Oceania Zone – 1967.

– Secretary General of Oceania Basketball- 1968-2001.

– Awarded MBE Services to Basketball in 1980.

– Awarded Order of Australia for service to Basketball in 1988.

– Elected President of Oceania Basketball in 1997.

– Inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall Of Fame as a Contributor in 2004 and again as a Legend in 2006.
