Arthur McRobbie OAM

After spending four years as a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II, Arthur McRobbie returned to Western Australia and became a foundation member of Basketball WA in 1946. He went on to become its Secretary for two years, Vice President for a further four years and then President for four more years.

He was a State Selector in Western Australia, as well as a Coach, a Team Manager, an Official Rules Interpretor, a Referee Coach, a Referee and an Administrator, and was elected as the first Life Member of Basketball WA.

He was the Manager of the Men’s Olympic Basketball Team in Mexico in 1968 and was made a Life Member of Basketball Australia in 1975.

He played an integral role in the development of the Perry Lakes Basketball Stadium, where to this day the main grandstand is named in his honour, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1982 for his service to sport, and he continues to have the Under-20 women’s National Championship trophy named in his honour.

– Received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) – 1982.

– Inducted into the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2007.
