Inga Freidenfelds OLY

Inga Freidenfelds learned to play basketball in a Displaced Persons Camp in Europe in 1946.
After immigrating to Australia as a fifteen year old in 1950, he made his senior debut for South Australia as a 19-year old in 1954 and following the 1955 Australian Championships he was selected to the 1956 Olympic Games team as Captain. At 21 years of age, he is still the youngest captain of an Australian Olympic Basketball Team in our history.
A true gentleman of the game, he was the South Australian Basketballer of the Year three times during the 1950s and remained in highest esteem up to and beyond his retirement in the mid 1960s as an outstanding ambassador for the game.

– Played at Melbourne Olympic Games – 1956.
– Captain of Australian Men’s Basketball Team – 1956.
– Youngest ever Australian Men’s Olympic Team Captain (21 years of age) – 1956.
– Averages 17 points and 10 rebounds per game in 1956 Olympics.
– Played at 1960 Pre-Olympic Tournament in Italy.
– Three-time South Australia Basketballer of the Year- 1955, 1956, 1959.
– Inducted as a Player to the Basketball Australia Hall of Fame in 2007.
