Basketball Australia is delighted to announce that Renee Narcis, Australian Junior Championships Manager, has received a Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) grant.
This program by the Australian Government is managed by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in partnership with the Office for Women with the objective of providing female administrators in the sports industry with opportunities to reach their leadership potential.
Narcis was offered the grant to aid her in achieving a Masters of Marketing at Deakin University.
In her current role, Narcis manages the Australian Junior Championships – a total of six major events per year which involves advising on everything from courtside duties and volunteers to marketing and accounts.
“I believe that the further knowledge and experience I would gain from completing a masters would enable me to improve the championships in the area of marketing, communications and partnerships,” said Narcis.
“This course will also assist me in reviewing the championships program as a whole and to plan strategies for the future.
“On a personal level, the completion of this course will enable me to look for opportunities to take on more leadership roles and I believe this qualification will be critical to moving forward in my career as a female leader in Australian sport.”

Basketball Australia CEO Anthony Moore was thrilled with the news.
“This scholarship from the Australian Sports Commission will enhance Renee’s excellent contribution to basketball and Australian sport in general,” he said.
“Having previously worked in the WLIS program, I am very familiar with the ASC process and getting through the selection process to receive the scholarship is a significant achievement.”
The ASC conducts a two-day sport leadership workshop for grant recipients in conjunction with the WLIS grant program, which aims to develop the participant’s leadership capabilities to progress within sport as an administrator, coach or official and to enable them to effectively manage the challenges within their sport and life in general.
Narcis will be attending the WLIS leadership workshop in Sydney from March 19-20.
